About this Event

Support - The Juanita and Rudy Ramus Scholorship Fund

Your donation to the Juanita and Rudy Rasmus Scholarship Fund will assist a special demographic of students (including young people aging out of Foster Care, previously homeless individuals, and second chance students) in taking the next step in life through learning.

You are invited to celebrate the reWIREment (some people retire, not us) of Pastor's Yvette, Juanita, and Rudy after thirty years of service at St. John's United Methodist Church and a night of jazz infused with emotions of the moment!

Live Performances by Jazz Saxophonist Marion Meadows, Comedian Marcus D. Wiley, and Jazz Pianist Alex Bugnon and Hosted by Amanda Sapp

About Pastor Rudy and Pastor Juanita Rasmus

In September of 1992, Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus founded the Bread of Life, Inc. with a simple mission to serve hot nutritious meals to homeless men and women in the downtown Houston area. By December of 1992, Bread of Life, Inc. was serving more than 500 hot meals per day in the sanctuary of St. John’s Downtown Church. It wasn’t long before Bread of Life, Inc. became a fixture in the downtown area providing much needed services, resources and support to families in need and the homeless population. Bread of Life, Inc. works in close partnership with Beyonce’s BeyGOOD. Together, Beyonce, Tina Knowles-Lawson, and Bread of Life, Inc. have coordinated domestic and global anti-hunger initiatives, and provided support to natural disaster victims. Nearly 30 years later, Bread of Life, Inc. is still focused on supporting underserved communities and restoring hope in Houston through its four program areas: Homeless Outreach, Health Outcomes, Hunger Relief, and community radio station KMAZ The Amazing 102.5 FM. Through your generous donations and support, Bread of Life, Inc. continues to help create an improved quality of life for the people of Houston.

About Jazz Pianist Alex Bugnon

Alex Bugnon has been a prolific, energetic force on the contemporary music scene for almost three decades. A renowned musician, composer and bandleader, Bugnon hales from the picturesque town of Caux, Switzerland – 4 miles above Montreux, site of the world famous Jazz Festival. No doubt, the annual convergence in his hometown and in his own home, of some of music’s most illustrious names played a role in his decision to pursue a musical career, as did his early friendship with Herbie Hancock. The fact that his uncle was the legendary Donald Byrd only served to further his decision.

Bugnon left Montreux to continue his training at the Paris Conservatory before landing in Boston to study at the Berklee School of Music. It was here in the U.S. that his exposure to a diversity of musical styles, from R&B to gospel, Jazz and funk, began to shape and influence his personal sound. Shortly after moving to New York City, Alex began touring with almost every R&B artists, such as Melba Moore, Freddie Jackson, Patti Austin, James Ingram and Glenn Jones to name a few. But it would be his encounter with saxophonist Najee that would ultimately turn the tide for him. Signed to Orpheus Records, Najee would make the introduction that would result in Alex’s first recording contract.
