About this Event
Launched in December 2024 to mark the 95th anniversary of Arnold Gross’s birth, this traveling exhibition presents key themes spanning the artist’s entire oeuvre. From the parental home and garden in Torda, Transylvania, the exhibition expands toward Hungarian landscapes, foreign cities, and imagined realms.
Gross’s art is rooted in personal memory and a childlike, poetic vision. Working primarily in the refined technique of copper engraving, he created intricate, lace-like compositions inhabited by whimsical, surreal figures. His imagery blends nature and urban space, reality and fantasy, humor and gentle irony, expressing a lifelong yearning to transcend everyday reality through play, imagination, and artistic creation.
The exhibition was curated by the artist’s son, András Gross, from the archive of the Gross Arnold Gallery, with texts based on studies by art historian Emese Révész.
