Join Spectrum and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) VIC Branch to celebrate the work and achievements of Associate Professor Josephine Beatson OAM. On Thursday 13th February 2025, 6:00pm-8:00pm, we will premiere a videographed conversation between Dr Gabriel Feiler and Jo Beatson. Attendance will be either in-person or online. The documentary was developed in association with the RANZCP Faculty of Psychotherapy, and highlights Jo's journey through psychiatry and psychotherapy and her impact on the areas to which she has dedicated her career.

About Associate Professor Josephine Beatson: Jo Beatson is a consultant psychiatrist with more than 35 years’ experience treating people with personality disorders. She has lectured, published and supervised extensively in this field and is widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on BPD in Australia. In 2023 she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division, as well as awarded the RANZCP citation in 2020, the Vic Branch of the RANZCP Meritorious Service Award in 2017, and three Outstanding Teaching Awards for the University of Melbourne, Master of Psychological Medicine course.

About Eugen Koh:
Eugen Koh is currently a senior consultant psychiatrist at St Vincent’s Hospital, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice, and a Senior Fellow at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at The University of Melbourne. He has a special interest in care of people with lived experience of complex trauma, especially the systemic issues that impacted on their treatment. In 1998, he completed a Master thesis on ‘The Development and Evaluation of a Psychodynamic Informed Model of Care for Patients Who Presented Repeatedly to Emergency Departments’. He was previously Head of the Psychotherapy Training Unit at St Vincent’s and has provided its annual series of lectures on trauma and personality disorders for the past 20 years. He is a member of the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists, where he also teaches and provides training supervision. He was also previously Chief Curator of The Cunningham Dax Collection and Director of The Dax Centre for many years.

About Gabriel Feiler:
Gabriel Feiler is a psychiatrist who works as a medical psychotherapist in private practice, a psychotherapy supervisor with St Vincent’s hospital, Melbourne, and an honorary fellow of the University of Melbourne. He is a member of the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists (VAPP) and is currently a member of the VAPP Ethics committee. He is involved in supervision and teaching of psychotherapy and provision of systemic reflective practice for staff members at St Vincent’s Mental Health, Melbourne.

In 2023, he was awarded the inaugural John Mark Davis Award by the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Australasia (PPAA). In 2022, he was awarded ‘Consultant of the Year’ at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

About Sathya Rao (moderator):
Associate Professor Sathya Rao is a psychiatrist and the Executive Clinical Director of Spectrum Personality Disorder Service. He is the Vice President of the Australian BPD Foundation. He is the president of Australasian Association for Research & Treatment of Personality Disorders (AART-PD) and also chairs the Committee for Professional Practice of RANZCP. In recognition of his outstanding service to Victorian Psychiatry over many years, the Victorian branch of the college of psychiatrists (RANZCP), in 2020 awarded him the ‘Meritorious Service Award’. In recognition of his contributions to psychiatry he received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) (General Division) in June 2022. He was a member of BPD Guidelines Development Committee of National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC), Australia. Dr Rao has published more than 70 research papers, has contributed chapters and co-authored books on Personality Disorder.
