Journal Making Fundraiser Supporting KarmaSue's Harley-Grey Project

Schedule

Sat Sep 25 2021 at 01:00 pm to 05:00 pm

Location

All Saints Lutheran Church, Aurora CO. | Aurora, CO

Only 12 spots available!
Join us in making a special and personal journal! This sturdy journal has two unique features: repurposed cigar boxes for covers and a two needle Coptic stitch binding that dates back to the second century A.D. Bookbinder Richard Pollock-Nelson experimented with different Coptic sewing techniques to find one that could handle the heavier covers. He found that a two-needle variation plus extra stitching at the front and back covers results in a strong book that opens flat for easy writing or sketching.
Richard will discuss how to create a paper jig and work with multiple needles to bind the signatures and the covers together with the Coptic stitch. He supplies pre-drilled cigar box covers for the class, but he will also explain how to modify the measurements to work for other sized covers. There will be a variety of cigar box covers to choose from for the class. You can check out some of the journals he has completed at: Handbound Designs. *The cover photo provides a sampling of some of the journals created in previous classes.
The journals are unique and also make great gifts, so come join us for a great cause! **The class is $50; if you would like to make an additional donation to help cover the materials fees, that would be greatly appreciated!
Each kit includes:
-Journal covers using cigar boxes
-Text block made of hand-cut Mohawk Superfine 70lb paper
-Waxed Irish linen for sewing
-Ribbon for a place marker
-A dark line guide for writing straight lines
-A class handout
Richard will also provide curved needles that will need to be returned after class.

About KarmaSue's Harley-Grey Project:
The Project is comprised of restricted funds, housed under KarmaSue's Financial Support Program and is available to current KarmaSue families (those that utilize any or all of the programs offered). The Project is designed to supplement the costs associated with euthanasia, removal of the deceased companion animal, cremation, or a combination of these services. KarmaSue will pay some or all of the costs related to the service(s) to minimize trauma experienced by the family enduring companion animal cancer. To learn more about The Project and the sweet family it is named after, please visit our website.
Please also visit KarmaSue's website for more information about our mission and how your participation in this fun event will impact our community in a very positive way!
