Josh is a former elite middle-distance runner and once ranked among New Zealand’s fastest 800m athletes. At the height of his sporting career, he was diagnosed with cancer, twice, leading to a stem-cell transplant, heart attacks, and five years of intensive treatment overseas. Faced with repeated setbacks, which he endured for 11 years of treatment,
Josh chose not to give up.
Through meaning-centred living, valuing his values, and pausing to be patient, he held onto those quality connections that helped him find the courage to move forward. Fueled by fortitude, Josh then fulfilled his lifelong dream by representing New Zealand at the World Transplant Games.
Today, he shares his journey to show that meaning can be found even in suffering, and that purpose can outlast adversity.
