About this Event
Why are we so obsessed with work? Working conditions throughout the world continue to deteriorate, yet, even workers in affluent economies persist in dedication to work as a source of meaning and fulfillment. In the second annual Josephine Butler Lecture, Sarah Jaffe, journalist and author of 'Work Won't Love You Back: How Devotion to Our Jobs Keeps us Exploited, Exhausted, and Alone' (Hurst, 2021) is joined by Mariann Hardey, Associate Professor at Durham University's Business School, to talk about the origins, myth, and idea of the 'labour of love' - and how to resist it.
The event is simultaneously in-person and online. The location is Saltwell, Josephine Butler College, Durham University; please indicate on registration if you would be joining in person. The building is accessible.
Zoom link to the event will be emailed to participants shortly before the event.
