Anotace:
In this lecture, Joe Grim Feinberg will compare the state of literature in the postwar United States and post-Communist Eastern Europe, observing that the temptation of “freeing” literature from political engagement resulted in a general decline of social interest in literature. While literary craft grew increasingly refined, fewer works were seen by the public as great work. Might it be that great literature (literature seen by the public as “great”) is not the result of high skill, but rather of flawed craft that engages imperfectly but strikingly with its political moment?
