ABOUT JOSE
Born in Coquimbo, Chile, percussionist Jose Diaz began studying music at the age of ten. He studied with Pablo Pallero, Mario Baeza, and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chile before continuing his studies here at Lynn, in the studio of Ted Atkatz, and Shaun Tilburg.
Jose has performed with ensembles including the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional Juvenil de Chile, the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with Cynthia Yeh of the Chicago Symphony, Matthew Strauss of the Houston Symphony, and was accepted to the substitute list for timpani with the Houston Symphony. In 2024, he had the honor of performing with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in the 150th anniversary celebration at the Chautauqua Institution, a performance broadcast nationally on PBS.
Outside of music, Jose enjoys cooking and trekking.
