The Grizzly Folk is the full-band project led by Jon Wilks, presenting an upbeat, warm and communal take on his music. Where his solo shows are rooted in intricate fingerpicking and close storytelling, this line-up brings a broader, more expansive sound — rich harmonies, layered instrumentation and rhythmic drive.Best known for his work in the traditional folk world, Jon’s fifth album, Needless Alley (2025), marks a shift towards original songwriting and a fuller band sound. The first single, ‘Could You Be The One?’, received BBC airplay. His previous solo release was named Folk Album of the Month in The Guardian, and he has been profiled in Guitarist, with praise from Uncut and KLOFmag. He has also appeared on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show.
Over the years, Jon has shared stages with artists including Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Martin Simpson, Billy Bragg and Graham Coxon, reflecting a career that bridges traditional and contemporary scenes.
The band features Jon Nice (keys, electric guitar, backing vocals), Rich Davies (bass) and Laurence Hunt (drums). Together, they rework traditional material alongside new songs concerned with time, memory and belonging — music designed to be shared rather than simply observed.
