The Joliet Symphony Orchestra (JSO) is pleased to announce the second concert set of its 2024-2025 Season with Artistic Director & Conductor, Dr. Sean Paul Mills, leading a program of works by Jean SIBELIUS, Alexander BORODIN, Edward ELGAR, Maurice RAVEL, Franz LISZT, and Modest MUSSORGSKY, featuring local photographer & painter, Deanna Gibson as Guest Artist.Titled “Pictures”, the JSO will be performing Jean SIBELIUS’ patriotic tone poem Finlandia, Alexander BORODIN’s musical tableau In the Steppes of Central Asia, Edward ELGAR’s sentimental Serenade for Strings, Maurice RAVEL’s homage Pavane pour une infante defunte, Franz LISZT’s rousing Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, and the ever-popular Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest MUSSORGSKY.
Performances will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2024 @ 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 24, 2024 @ 4:00 p.m. Both performances will take place in Sexton Auditorium which is located in the Harold & Margaret Moser Performing Arts Center on the University of St. Francis campus at 500 Wilcox Street in Joliet.
The gregarious photographer, curator, artist, and mom, Deanna Gibson, will be joining the JSO as Guest Artist for these performances and will be creating art DURING the performances. A dedicated creative arts professional with a passion for photography, design, painting, sculpting, sewing, and curating exhibitions, Deanna was born and raised on a farm in the Midwest and pursued a Fine Arts degree at Northern Illinois University where she was honored by having her work chosen for the cover of The School of Arts book. She found success in her photography and has been published in countless books, magazines, and newspapers as well as created many album covers, billboards, commercial marketing materials, and advertisements. As an artist she has enjoyed many group exhibitions, two solo shows, and has collectors nationally and internationally. She is a member of the St. Charles Arts Council, The Art Center Highland Park, Water Street Studios and Fine Line Creative Arts Center, and currently holds classes, curates, and creates art for The Curator’s Cafe in Joliet.
Continuing this season is a series of FREE pre-concert discussions titled “Noteworthy.” These discussions will take place 45 minutes prior to each performance and provide audience members with an opportunity to learn more about the composers, selections, orchestra, and soloists as well as ask questions and interact with our conductor and guests.
Tickets for JSO concerts are available through the JSO website at www.jolietsymphonyorchestra.org, the Music at Moser website at www.stfrancis.edu/music-at-moser/, and at the door beginning one (1) hour before each performance. Adults are $10; Seniors, Alumni & Non-USF Students are $5; USF Students, Music Educators, and Youth (18 & under) are FREE with a current ID.
