Mardi Gras holds a special place in my heart, deeply intertwined with my childhood memories and familial ties to New Orleans. Growing up, the vibrant spirit of this celebration was brought alive through the stories and traditions passed down from my grandmother. Her excitement was contagious; each year, she would return home with treasures that filled our home with joy and anticipation.
The gold-covered coconuts, adorned with colorful decorations, became symbols of our heritage and the connection to the lively festivities of the city. They represented not just a treat but a tangible piece of New Orleans culture, a reminder of the joy and unity that Mardi Gras brings. The beads, with their bright hues and playful clinks, transformed our living room into a mini parade, echoing the sounds of laughter and celebration that filled the streets of the French Quarter.
Sweet pralines were another cherished gift from my grandmother, their rich, creamy texture encapsulating the warmth of family gatherings. Each bite was a reminder of the love and tradition that enveloped us, a sweet indulgence that marked the season with flavor and nostalgia.
Through these experiences, Mardi Gras became more than just a festival; it was a celebration of family, culture, and the vibrant spirit of New Orleans. As I reflect on these memories, I realize that Mardi Gras is a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the vibrant threads of my deep familial connections.

We’ll gather beginning at 5:30 PM for an energetic night filled with music and Mardi Gras spirit - a chance to celebrate our shared values, reconnect with friends from across our community, and build momentum for the important work ahead.
