About this Event

Ever wondered how a non-fiction book comes into being - from the first idea to the finished pages?

The Second Source co-founder and debut author Megha Mohan joins us at The Hearth, a space for women to gather and grow in Queen’s Park, to talk about her first book, Herlands: Lessons from Societies Where Women Make the Rules - a journey through places, past and present, around the world where women have shaped the rules of society.

You can also ask her about the process: the proposal stage, agents, the finished book, and everything in between, at a Q&A chaired by Barbara Speed.

Megha Mohan became the BBC’s first global gender and identity correspondent in 2018, covering women’s rights, LGBT communities, race and ethnicity for the BBC’s language services worldwide. She has investigated the black market for abortion pills in Honduras, the multi-billion-dollar global love coaching industry, and gender roles in North Korea’s army – a report that ranked among Chartbeat’s 100 most-read articles in the world. Mohan was named in Progress 1000’s list of most influential storytellers, and she consulted on Level Up’s media guidelines on how to sensitively report on domestic violence.

The Second Source was founded in the wake of #metoo to provide an alternative network for women and non-binary people in the media. It seeks to promote awareness of challenges, offer community, training and support, and work with organisations to create change. Find out more at thesecondsource.info
