Johnson’s Thrive Network is committed to harnessing the power of female professionals. It is our strong belief that we are better together–learning from one another, building networks to support one another, and collaborating both professionally and personally to become the best version of ourselves. Our Powerhouse event was established to showcase extraordinary female professionals in our region and provide an opportunity to gather, network, and share encouraging stories.

This year’s Powerhouse is Marianne Lewis, PhD. A true pioneer in her field, Marianne is the first female dean of the top ranked University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business. Dean Lewis is an international expert on leadership and innovation, a beloved teacher, and an esteemed author and speaker. Join us as she shares inspiring stories including how an unexpected setback early in her career was transformed into a stepping stone for growth.

Marianne Lewis is dean and professor of management at the Lindner College of Business, University of Cincinnati. She previously served as dean of Cass (now Bayes) Business School at City, University of London, and as a Fulbright scholar. Collaborating with international researchers and executives, her work examines the management of paradoxes in contexts from product development and organizational change to governance and career development. Lewis has been recognized among the world’s most-cited researchers in her field (Web of Science) and received the Paper of the Year award (2000) and Decade Award (2021) from the Academy of Management Review. Her work also appears in such journals as Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management Journal, and Journal of Operations Management. Lewis earned her MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and her PhD from the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky.

Marianne's recent book, Both/And Thinking: Embracing Creative Tensions to Solve Your Toughest Problems, co-authored with Wendy Smith, PhD explores a mindset shift when faced with tensions and decision-making. Marianne noted, “Although our research has always been in organizations, the more we studied tensions, the more we came to see them in our lives, relationships, and society. Tensions are part of the human experience. That understanding pushed me to expand my research focus over time, resulting in this book that is written for parents and partners, as well as leaders and professionals.”

OTR Stillhouse

Our event will be held in the OTR Stillhouse–the first female-owned distillery in Ohio. This historic building has housed a variety of businesses since 1899. Owner, Michelle Hobbs transformed the space and opened it to the public in December of 2021. The complex includes a brewery, distillery, eatery, retail establishment, and indoor/outdoor entertainment venue. Showcased in the historic space are a large copper still and a solid mahogany bar that was designed and milled in Ireland.
