Set in the dreamy, raw realism of contemporary Queens, a livid Gen Z Donna storms into her painter ex-boyfriend Tommy’s studio to confront him about sleeping with her sister.

What starts as an accusation between two passionate ex-lovers transforms into a deeper inquiry that invites re-imagining the true connectivity of masculine and feminine roles in friendship, sex, art, love, and family.

The next day Donna visits her estranged father, also a very successful painter, seeking love, protection and advice. Her dad is brought aboard their roller coaster ride—challenged to account for his choices and fight for his point of view as a father, husband, and artist, finally pushing Donna and Tommy’s romantic relationship to a surprising, heightened end.

As Tommy and Donna grapple with their conditioning, they discover their own authentic version of adulthood and give us an inkling of a new path out of the patriarchy.

Staged and conceptualized by female director Harrison James, this sophisticated, essential take on the play is told with sensitive intimacy and through an immediate, candid aperture.

In collaboration with Zo Haynes (lighting design), Crash Richard (sonic design), Sarah Polednak (movement design), and Kenton Parker (production design) supporting the theme with their gorgeous works, dreamer is a layered experience about challenging and dissolving the patriarchy and imagining and creating, together, a tangible, smart, and beautiful path forward.

Written in 1986, the dreamer examines his pillow is more current and relevant than ever. The production invites everyone to imagine higher, dream bigger, shine brighter, and collaborate even more dynamically in this fresh, shared vision—the new system in which girls, women, and femme-identifying people have equal power, leadership, and distribution of resources, and where Female power, which is inclusive and welcomes everyone, has a paramount place at the table.

A portion of the profits from this production will go toward educating girls in Afghanistan.
