"JOHN KRANTZ has been a mainstay on the Des Moines jazz scene since he returned to public performing in 2006. He spent nearly seven years playing every Friday night at Sam and Gabe's Italian Restaurant and has played regulary at numerous finer restaurants, festivals, corporate receptions, country clubs and private events. He loves the standard jazz repertoire in addition to many lesser knowns compositions by some of his musical heroes, but always attempts to cater to the audience. Krantz generally performs with an upright bassist, but loves the traditional jazz piano trio with a drummer. He also loves to work with a horn player upon occasion. Krantz has recorded three CD's to date (available on iTunes - all in different formats - duo, trio and quintet).
In addition to playing regulary, John is an arts advocate serving on various arts related non-profit boards in the Des Moines area. He created the Jazz Hall Of Fame for the Community Jazz Center in 2001 and is involved with that event annually as well as booking jazz twice a week at Louie's Wine Dive in Des Moines."
