The John Donegan Trio with Steve Waterman are launching their new album “Interfuse” @ Jazz Café POSK. The concert will be featuring material from the new album plus some carefully selected tunes from John’s previous albums!

John Donegan, the UK Based and originally from Cork, is a modern jazz pianist and composer. His music has been featured on the BBC, Jazz FM, RTE Lyric FM, and many independent radio stations across Ireland, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Europe. He has performed with a wide range of British, Irish and international artists, including, Art Blakey, Art Farmer, Barney Kessel, Greg Abate, Louis Stewart and many more.

John had performed in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal and in Birdland in New York. John has written a Suite of contemporary music influenced by his involvement in Jazz and by his native Irish traditional music. These have been released in two albums entitled Siamsa (Irish for entertainment) Volumes1&2.

He has also created jazz arrangements of 6 Chopin pieces, 2 John Field pieces and written his own original Nocturnes and these have been performed at The Chopin Festival in London and other venues in the UK.

John has released 9 albums in his own name, the most recent three have been with his Irish Sextet. He has received four-star reviews from, Jazzwise Magazine including Editors pick, The Jazz Mann, All About Jazz, UK Jazz News, Bebop Spoken Here and many more. They have commented:

Bernard O’Neill was born in Dublin in 1961 into a musical family. He studied Piano, Cello & Composition at The Royal Irish Academy of Music and holds performance and teaching qualifications from the ARIAM and the Royal College of Music in London. Since 1998 he's been a member of The Royal Society of Musicians, is a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Musicians and is a Freeman of The City of London, awarded for his services to music education. He was an ABRSM examiner from 1998 to 2014.

He has been a professional double bassist since 1986 and has performed on over 3000 album tracks with the likes of Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Natacha Atlas, Victor Manuel, Donovan & Sinead O'Connor. As a jazz musician he has worked with John Donegan for many years as well as John Etheridge, Neil Stacey, Clark Tracey, Don Rendell, The Kremlinaires and many others.

He is an ethnomusicologist who for the past 30 years has been associated with Peter Gabriel's record label Real World records both as an artist but also as a producer. His credits include amongst others Loreena McKennit, Dub Collossus, Little Axe, Samy Yirga, Olcay Bayir as well as his own project Syriana. Since 2014 he has lived in the Southwest of France where he has his own studio in a converted 12th century barn.

John Daly has been at the forefront of the Irish music scene for over forty years. Currently Chairperson of Limerick Jazz Society now in its 41st year and Director of Limerick Jazz Festival in it’s13th year. He has been involved with every genre of music since the early 80’s. He has played in every musical situation possible over that time from rock to pop to classical to jazz, from small bands to big bands and orchestras and has played all the major Broadway productions which have been staged in Limerick. John began his studies at The Peter Dee Academy of Music in 1972 and at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College Of Music in 1979.

John has played with such great Irish players like Louis Stewart Jim Doherty Noel Kelehan Richie Buckley Michael Buckley Phil Ware Dave Redmond Lin-ley Hamilton Dan Bodwell Tommy Halferty Mike Nielsen and with international artists Tony Miceli Paul Jost, David Kikowski Arnie Lawrence Ken Peplowski David O Rourke Ben Boone (USA) John Donegan (UK) Michel Zenino (FRA) Jamie Oehlers Tal Cohen (Australia) Paul Tynan (Canada)

He has toured extensively in Ireland over the past 20 years also performed in the USA and Europe. In April 2022 John recorded a new album with the John Donegan Irish Sextet called Shadows Linger, together with some of the top Irish jazz musicians. in the country, and two further albums followed to critical acclaim. He is in constant demand as a side man and educator. A vastly experienced musician who has maintained a busy schedule over the years and is always ready for the next challenge.

Steve Waterman is one of the top British jazz trumpet players both at home and on the international scene. He began his career while studying at Trinity College of Music, and since then has worked regularly on the British, European and International jazz scene. Steve has recorded many critically acclaimed albums under his own name.

Steve has worked with John Surman’s Brass Project recording a CD on the ECM label “The Brass Project”; he has toured Europe playing at many of the major Jazz Festivals with the Carla Bley Big Band and recorded two CDs for the ECM label: “Big Band Theory” and “Carla Bley Goes to Church”. Other performers that Steve has regularly worked and recorded with include ANDY SHEPPARD, TONY COE, VICTOR MENDOZA, MAL WALDRON, GRAHAM COLLIER, MIKE GARRICK, DON WELLER, JOHN WARREN, COLIN TOWNS & ROBIN JONES, JEFF HOOPER, ALAN BARNES, and LEE GIBSON. As a composer, Steve has had several commissions ranging from a small group to big bands. These include compositions for the big band PENDULUM (formally the Berkshire Youth Jazz Orchestra) - which can be heard on the CD “Pendulum”.

Steve also recently teamed up with British vocalist Jeff Hooper to record the album "A Passing Glance" - Steve arranged all the pieces for the album.
