? About the Artist:
John Crain was born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised in Buffalo, New York. In 1972, he formed his first band in El Paso, Texas and played some of his first gigs alongside mentor, Big Sonny Farlow (who had previously been a member of Sir Douglas Quintet and Lowriders with Jimmy Carl Black).
In the mid 1970s, Crain ventured west to Eugene and started "Air Jamaica" on KLCC, Oregon's first reggae radio program. He played with several bands in the area before forming Native Pulse in 1980. The Pulse, and variations thereof, held the closing spot at The Oregon Country Faire three years running.
Crain moved to Portland in 1989 and entered the Portland Blues scene, playing lead guitar with local blues vocalist, J.C. Rico, in a band that included some of Portland's finest blues players. He also gigged with the late, great Paulette Davis before hooking up with the Kita Montgomery Band for a four-year stint. Next, he formed Mumbo Gumbo with the fablous soul singer, Ural Thomas, where the focus was the second line, Zydeco, and New Orleans Blues. Crain later joined a cross-country tour with Etoufee as lead guitarist. Other bands include: Jaywalkers, Arousing Spirit, Public Eye and Pound for Pound.

? Gigs of Note:
Oregon Country Faire (w/ Native Pulse, Arousing Spirit, Jaywalkers)
Isla Mujeres Music Festival (w/ Splash)
Portland Rose Festival (w/ Kita Montgomery Band)
