Lähes 60 vuoden ajan John Cale on luonut musiikkiaan uudelleen häikäisevän täsmällisesti ja inspiroivasti – aina siitä lähtien, kun hän oli nuori walesilainen, muutti New Yorkiin ja perusti The Velvet Undergroundin. Cale aloitti soolouransa vuonna 1970 yhdellä parhaista albumeistaan, helposti lähestyttävällä laulaja-lauluntekijä-levyllä Vintage Violence. Seuraavalla albumillaan Church of Anthrax Cale teki yhteistyötä minimalistisen musiikin pioneeri Terry Rileyn kanssa.
Calen monipuolisen soolotuotannon helmiin lukeutuvat myös monessa yhteydessä maailman parhaiden albumien joukkoon nostettu kamarifolkilla hurmannut Paris 1919 (1973), rosoisempi Fear (1974), taiderocklevy Music For A New Society (1982), yhdessä entisen bändikaverin Lou Reedin kanssa tehty Songs For Drella (1990) sekä viimeisin levy MERCY. Pioneeri nosti uudelle levylleen mukaan nimekkään joukon nykymusiikin mielenkiintoisimpia nimiä: Weyes Bloodin, Animal Collectiven, Actressin ja Sylvan Esson.
Illan avaa Emma-ehdokkuudellakin huomioitu Knife Girl. Nuoresta iästään huolimatta Knife Girlillä on jo takana upea matka miljoonia striimaavasta elektronisen musiikin itseoppineesta lahjakkuudesta täysveriseksi indiepop-artistiksi.

For nearly 60 years, John Cale has been reinventing his music with dazzling precision and inspiration – ever since he was a young Welshman who moved to New York and founded The Velvet Underground.
Cale began his solo career in 1970 with one of his finest albums, the approachable singer-songwriter debut Vintage Violence. For his next album, Church of Anthrax, Cale collaborated with minimalist music pioneer Terry Riley.
Cale’s diverse solo production includes pearls like the chamber folk album Paris 1919 (1973), often considered one of the best albums in the world, the edgier Fear (1974), the art rock album Music For A New Society (1982), Songs For Drella (1990), a collaboration with his former bandmate Lou Reed, and MERCY, released earlier this year. Cale’s new album features collaborations with a whole host of interesting contemporary musicians: Weyes Blood, Animal Collective, Actress and Sylvan Esso.
The night’s opening act is Knife Girl. Despite her young age, the unique Knife Girl has already made a fantastic journey from a self-taught electronic music talent whose songs have millions of streams to a full-blooded indie pop artist who has also been nominated for an Emma Award.
