Colony Woodstock Presents: Joe's Last Party - A Celebration of the Life of Joseph Barton
w/ Veronica Kent and The Remedy Band
Joseph Barton recently passed away peacefully at home on July 20th. He was laid to rest next to his wife, Paula Gloria next door in the Woodstock Cemetary. This celebration of his life is to bring to light the many ways in which he touched other peoples lives and to be his last party.
All are encouraged to come and share their stories of how knowing Joe, changed their life for the better.
Joe was a sailor in the Navy and a Vietnam veteran, a husband, a father, a friend, a helper, a student, a teacher and educator, an artist, an activist, a peace lover, an advocate, a spiritual man, a leader, to judges: a pain in the ass, a stage manager, a rock and roller, a partyer, a night owl and a great storyteller. Joe had a very adventurous life and had a lot of fun.
He traveled the world, met a lot of people and did a lot of things. More recently, he was the happiest and had the most fullfilling life when he met his soulmate, Paula Gloria as they did everything together. Most people in the community know them as "Joe and Paula".
Joe always loved rock and roll and music. He was good friends with Rick Danko and The Band, the New Riders of The Purple Sage and many other talented musicians. He attended the original Woodstock concert in 1969. He organized and put on the Woodstock 20th anniversary free festival on the original site in Bethel, New York. He continued these every year until 1994 when he put on the first Freedomfest 10 day music festival.
Joe always loved live music and bringing people together to enjoy music and have a good time. He often had birthday parties with bands playing where everyone came and celebrated and enjoyed themselves. So, it's only fitting to celebrate Joe's life with live music and celebration.
The event will open with some video footage of Joe courtesy of Nathan Koenig from the Woodstock Museum (WoodstockMuseum.org), followed by our stories and experiences of Joe.
If you have a story to share, please bring it. We would love to hear it! After we've heard all the stories, Veronica Kent is going to grace us with her beautiful harp music.
To close out the evening, The Remedy band will enliven the celebration with rock and roll music to sing along or dance to, to lift our spirits with music.
Let's celebrate Joe's life and remember the good times.
