L’autrice-compositrice américaine Joan Shelley continue de tisser une œuvre d’une rare constance et d’une profonde sensibilité. Après The Spur (2022), salué par Pitchfork, The Guardian et Uncut, elle revient avec Real Warmth, enregistré durant l’hiver 2025 à Toronto avec le producteur et multi-instrumentiste Ben Whiteley (The Weather Station). Entourée de son partenaire Nathan Salsburg et d’une communauté de musiciens canadiens, Shelley signe un disque lumineux, à la fois intime et collectif.
Originaire du Kentucky et désormais installée dans le Michigan, Joan Shelley s’est imposée au fil des ans comme une figure majeure de la folk contemporaine, collaborant avec Wilco, Richard Thompson ou Bonnie “Prince” Billy, et apparaissant sur des scènes prestigieuses telles que Later… with Jools Holland. Avec Real Warmth, elle poursuit sa quête d’équilibre entre douceur, clarté et profondeur émotionnelle — une folk qui réchauffe, même dans la neige.

Als artieste is Joan Shelley altijd verbonden aan een plek; of dat nu Chicago, IJsland, Kentucky of Toronto is. Nu brengt haar zoektocht haar ook naar Nederland. De Amerikaanse folk- en singer-songwriter, bekend om haar poëtische stem, zachte melodieën en teksten die intiem en lyrisch ademen, wordt internationaal geprezen als een van de meest bijzondere stemmen van haar generatie. In tijden die om warmte, huiselijkheid en gemeenschap vragen, heeft Shelley een album gemaakt dat beweegt tussen moderne folk, Americana en indie.
Dat doet ze niet alleen: eerder stond ze op het podium met o.a. Richard Thompson, Wilco, Patty Griffin en Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Met een sterke live-reputatie steekt ze nu de oceaan over, en presenteert ze volgend jaar haar nieuwe album ‘Real Warmth’ voor iedereen die bereid is écht te luisteren.
