Toronto has been witnessing a hope-inducing uptick in spaces that host live music. Gizelle Griarte's 520 Cafe Bar is one of the latest and greatest of these spaces, sporting an innovative cocktail menu, an excellent DJ roster, and a hidden entrance just off of graffiti alley.
For the first live jazz event in the space, they have chosen to host a fresh trio of some of the most innovative, young jazz musicians on the Toronto scene. Jon Catanus (diskarte, Orbital Ensemble) Jen Lo (Lavender Town, Duck Society), and Julian Anderson-Bowes (JABFUNG, Tara Kannangara).
Jon and Julian are recent nominees for the 2026 "Breakthrough Jazz Artist Award" by the Toronto Arts Foundation, and have joined forces with Jen to create a perfect storm of complex, provocative, yet playful arrangements of standard jazz tunes, classic Dilla beats, and even a few tunes written by Detroit-based legendary jazz pianist & composer, Geri Allen.
