Lundi Gras, the Monday immediately before Mardi Gras Day—also known as "Fat Monday" or "Shrove Monday"—has its own ever-evolving traditions and celebrations. The Jumbo Circus Peanuts, who are known for putting Mardi Gras on the social calendar in Portsmouth, NH, will bring a Mardi Gras-style celebration and dance party to Jimmy's Monday Night Local Series. Expect to hear the music of New Orleans legends like Professor Longhair, The Meters, Dr. John, and others, along with the Peanuts' signature mix of funky rock, soulful grooves, and a promise to let the good times roll!
Originally formed as a marching band for the inaugural Portsmouth Halloween Parade in 1995, the Jumbo Circus Peanuts made their indoor debut with a full rhythm section on Mardi Gras 1996—and every day since has felt like Fat Tuesday. Over the years, the band has played nearly every stage and music festival on the NH Seacoast, turning each performance into a dance party. Now an 11-piece ensemble with 8 horns, the JCP have evolved their sound into a unique blend of funk, soul, and horn-driven rock 'n' roll. They never fail to get the crowd on their feet.
