Join us for a rare screening of a historic film, 'The Magnificent Mountain' made in 1966 on the British Expedition to Alpamayo in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru. In the team, which was led by Dennis Gray, was the well-known Ned Kelly, a professional cinephotographer/TV producer who shot footage of the ascent despite not really being a climber.
The film was broadcast just once on British television by a now defunct ITV company, and has only rarely been seen since the late 1960s. Now recently digitised, the film will be introduced by Jim who will relate some of the chequered climbing history of Alpamayo for context before screening the film, which follows the first complete ascent of the peak’s north ridge to the true summit.
The talk will be held at the Alpine Club's premises at 55 Charlotte Road, EC2A 3QF and, as always, non-members are welcome to attend.
For safety reasons, we are required to keep a register of all attendees. If you plan to attend, please complete the form here: https://alpineclub.org/event/jim-gregson-alpamayo-london
