Join us for an evening with esteemed teacher Jhampa Shaneman, who will guide an introduction to the Vajrasattva purification practice, a foundational method in the Buddhist path for clearing obscurations and restoring inner clarity. The Vajrasattva practice uses the recitation of mantra, visualization, and contemplation to purify negative patterns of body, speech, and mind. This powerful method is said to cleanse obstacles that veil our natural awareness, opening the way for deeper meditation and realization. The sessions will combine explanation, guided practice, and time for questions, offering participants both understanding and direct experience. Suitable for practitioners of all levels, this event invites us to explore the healing and liberating power of Vajrasattva.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
One of the first western Buddhist monks in the Tibetan tradition of Mahayana Buddhism, Jhampa met Ven. Lama Yeshe and became one of his first male sangha members in 1971. From that time, Jhampa studied under His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kyabje Ling Rinpoche and the Ven. Geshe Rabten and Geshe Dhargaye. During this period, Jhampa had the opportunity to study and work as a translator for masters of all four sects of Tibetan Buddhism. By 1980, Jhampa had completed six years of study of the sutras and tantras and four years of short retreats. In the fall of 1980, Jhampa entered the traditional Great Retreat and spent the next three and a half years on the mountain above Dharmsala, India, under the spiritual guidance of Ven. Ling Rinpoche. Upon completing, Jhampa returned to Canada and chose to disrobe. There Jhampa established three Dharma centers on Vancouver Island, after which he was the resident teacher for for the FPMT center Rinchen Zangpo in Mexico.
