Join us for a hands-on fermentation workshop that will nourish the belly and soul through methods of ancient alchemy and food preservation. In this class, we will dive into the lineage of fermentation and explore its value from a cultural, political, ecological, and nutritive lens. We will explore different fermented foods -- some from Jewish lineages and some from others -- to explore how fermentation preserves not only crops but culture. After tasting some delicious offerings each participant will have the opportunity to build a fermentation of their own and will leave with skills and ready-to-eat items to introduce ancestral fermentation into their kitchens and bodies.
Farmer by training and ritualist by new moon, Lila Rimalovski creates places and spaces that facilitate connection between more-than-human realms and the human. Lila is a folk herbalist, ancestral fermenter, community organizer, and ceremonialist currently finding home amidst tall trees and queer Jews on Lisjan Ohlone land in Oakland, CA.
