Jewelry Making Hands-on Workshop Training Outline
This outline is designed for a beginner-friendly, hands-on jewelry making workshop. The focus will be on practical skills and creating a finished piece to take home.
Workshop Duration: 1 Day
Materials:
- All material for making jewelry will be provided
Safety:
- A short safety briefing on proper tool usage and handling sharp objects.
- Provide safety glasses and gloves for participants.
Part 1: Introduction to Jewelry Making
- Briefly discuss the history and different styles of jewelry making.
- Introduce the concept of jewelry design and inspiration.
- Showcase various finished pieces participants can create during the workshop.
Part 2: Tools and Materials
- Identify common jewelry making tools and their uses (pliers, cutters, files, mandrels, jump rings, clasps, etc.)
- Introduce different materials used in jewelry making (wire, beads, metal sheets, polymer clay, gemstones, etc.)
- Demonstrate proper tool handling techniques.
Part 3: Basic Techniques
- Wirework: Basic wire bending, looping, coiling techniques. Creating jump rings, clasps, and simple wire components for jewelry.
- Stringing: Different types of threads, cords, and wires for stringing beads. Knotting techniques for secure stringing.
Part 4: Project Time
- Guide participants through the creation of a specific jewelry piece (earrings, necklace, bracelet).
- Provide clear, step-by-step instructions with demonstrations.
Part 5: Finishing and Presentation
- Techniques for polishing and finishing the jewelry pieces.
- Demonstrate how to properly assemble and attach findings (clasps, jump rings).
- Ideas for packaging and presenting the finished pieces.
Wrap-Up (15 Minutes)
Q&A session to answer any lingering questions.
Provide participants with a handout with key information and resources for further exploration of jewelry making.
This class does not require a live model. Practice is on mannequin
