Date: 10/12/2024

Time: 12pm-4:30pm

Location: Color | Ink Studio

Register by Thursday October 10th. Registration will close at 10pm.

Silver casting is “the process of creating a metal object by pouring molten metal into a mold and allowing it to cool and solidify.”

Straw-casting silver: This is a low-tech direct casting method that is a lot of fun to play with. You soak an old-fashioned straw broom in water for a few hours, then melt and pour molten silver from a crucible into the bunched bristles of the broom. The same technique is used with beans, can use any shaped bean, kidney, pea, black bean.

About Michael Opipari:

After lengthy careers as a freelance photographer and retail designer, Michael Opipari embarked on a new path. Since 2017, his combined experiences have given him a unique perspective on the practical and aesthetic processes of crafting innovative, environmentally sound, and ethically sourced wearable art.

More about Michael and his wearable art can be found https://www.opiparijewelry.com/

Michael will bring his talent, expertise and creativity to demonstrate broom and bean casting. After the molten silver is poured over either the bristles or beans, we will then continue the process of creating a necklace for your special someone, you will leave here with a finished piece of wearable art. For those who have been interested in jewelry making, especially casting with silver, this is the workshop for you. Limited seats available.

Organized by Maus Haus Gallery - for additional questions please email [email protected]

Samples below are of bean-casting and straw-casting. For this workshop we will just be working with the silver, there may be an advance jewelry making workshop in the future that will include gems, etc.
