All I know is that I write songs and I have the opportunity to share them with you so please come and be together because of music 🎶 💗
Jess Lee O’Neill is a world wonderer, mother and Musician living in Parewarangk/Cape Jervis. With sweet vocals full of soul, Jess captivates her audience with a mix of indie-folk pop and Australiana. Her performances warmly invite listeners to engage in the imagery and nostalgia of her music and life.
A self taught musician, Jess picked up guitar to guide her songwriting while hitchhiking Europe.
She has homes in many places including the Queensland rainforest, the desert of south Australia, Tasmania and Scotland and her songs are a way of staying connected to the people and places she treasures most.
In 2019 Jess completed a diploma of music/ songwriting at the Conservatorium of music in Hobart. She has played as a solo artist and with a band both in Australia and overseas. Jess has been recording her EP with hwr husband and producer Ville Karvonen is his mobile recording studio in between major life moves including raising children and renovating an old beach shack on South Australia's rugged Parewarangk/Cape Jervis.
Jess grew up listening to rock and roll, folk and country music including Rodrigues, Neil young, Joni Mitchell and Australian folk/country music legends The Waifs and John Williamson. Writing about connection to place and a great love of natural surroundings is something that likens her to these country artists. In recent years her influences include Alela Dianne and Gillian Welch- feminine artists that write and create as an inquiry into pain.
Jess is a natural storyteller and she tunes into the exquisite landscapes she has been apart of both in this realm and her inner world. Jess’ songs are an innocent exploration of wonder, womanhood and pain and in her songwriting process she reflects on the unfurling human dance with connection, love and heartache.
Aza Newland is a multi-instrumentalist living on Ramindjeri Country with a fierce commitment to community and the environment. Raised on a soundtrack of 90s feminists and 70s folk artists, Aza started writing songs at the age of nine, and has since used music as a tool for self-reflection and truth-telling. Exploring themes of vulnerability and passion, Aza's emotive storytelling generates a feeling of nostalgia, capturing the complexities of what it means to be human.
