Jersey City Connects | The Grief Table | Grief Support Meetup
About this Event
Grief can be one of the loneliest experiences there is, even when you're surrounded by people.
The Grief Table is a casual monthly gathering for adults who have experienced loss. No agenda. No therapy. No pressure to share. Just a space to be around people who understand what it feels like to carry something like this.
Bring whatever helps you settle: a coloring book, a scrapbooking project, knitting, a journal, a book, or nothing at all. Some people will talk. Some will sit quietly. Both are completely welcome.
Please bring a blanket or chair, as we’ll be gathering in the park.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Anyone who has lost someone: a parent, partner, friend, child, sibling, or anyone deeply loved. Any loss. Any timeline. Whether your grief is recent or years old, there is a seat for you.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is not a structured grief group or therapy session. Think of it more like sitting with people who get it: doing something quiet with your hands, having real conversations when they happen naturally, and leaving feeling a little less alone than when you walked in.

WHY THIS EXISTS
Jersey City Connects has spent the last six years creating spaces where people can find genuine community. The Grief Table grew out of a belief: our most isolating experiences don’t have to be carried alone.
Research on peer grief communities shows that connecting with others who understand loss can meaningfully reduce isolation:
- 92% said it played an important role in their grief journey
- 86% experienced a stronger sense of belonging
- 84% formed meaningful friendships
- 84% expanded their support network
You don’t have to be okay. You just have to show up.
