About this Event

On Friday, September 25, we’re hosting a conversation between friends and photographers Jerry Hsu, Daniel Arnold & Ryan McGinley on Hsu’s

Made over the last decade in Los Angeles, the book is occupied with the almost sentient character of the city. Hsu’s photographs are sensitively attuned to the contradictions of LA, entangling allusions to hope and despair, beauty and pain in an atmospheric and uncanny sequence. These disparate and dissonant strands reach a beguiling harmony, together looking to destruction as a potential source of change and rebirth.

Jerry Hsu is a Taiwanese-American skateboarder, photographer, and owner of skate company Sci-Fi Fantasy. His previous publications include Lonley City (2023) and The Beautiful Flower is the World (2019).

Daniel Arnold is a photographer whose candid, street-level images capture the unfiltered rhythms of urban life. Arnold is based in New York and his first monograph, Pickpocket, was published in 2022, and his second, You Are What You Do, in 2025. His photography regularly appears in publications such as The New York Times, Vogue, and Interview Magazine. His recent solo exhibitions include New York Life, New York Life Gallery and New Photographs, Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art, San Francisco.

Ryan McGinley is a New York–based photographer. His early photos displayed the unseen intersection of Skateboard and Graffiti culture with a strong Queer focus. At the age of twenty-five, he became the youngest artist to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art. For more than a decade McGinley has road tripped continuously throughout the United States to create work that incorporates the human body within the American landscape. You can always find Ryan on the streets of NYC doing Queer activism fighting for LGBTQ rights. McGinley frequently has solo gallery and museum exhibitions around the world.

N.B. This event is free and open to the public, though advance registration is encouraged.
