SINGING BONE PRESS: HANDMADE BOOKS - A 10 YEAR RETROSPECTIVEThe press’ founders—Tom Lang, Jerred Metz, and Phil Sultz— hoped to, as the Grimm brothers’ story of “The Singing Bone” goes, make “songs” from “bones”, books from leftovers, scraps, and discards. From 1974 to 1984 Singing Bone released ten letter-press editions, including Afroyim LoigzuItz’s absurd Scenes and Stories, Jerred Metz’s exotic riddle book Three Legs Up, Cold as Stone: Six Legs Down, Blood and Bone, Jerome Rothenberg's Seneca Journal: The Serpent, and Seneca Journal: Mid-Winter, thirty short poems written in the poet’s notebook during the Mid-Winter Ceremonies of 1973 and 1974.
Join us Saturday 11 AM as Jerred Metz tells the story of Singing Bone, introduces us to his new work, and shares his incredible gift. Coffee, pastries and light hors d'oeuvres will be served. Also see the Steven Chapp exhibition of prints that opulate Metz's new work.
