RAYMOND MACDONALD (Glasgow)
https://www.raymondmacdonald.co.uk/
Two of quite possibly my favourite Glaswegians coming together for some solo works and Guitar/Sax improvised collaboration..
Jer Reid was at the heart of the avant hardcore scene in the late 80's/early 90's, playing in Dawson (Who's recent one off reunion show totally blew my mind) and heading up Gruff Wit Records (with releases from Badgewearer and Whirling Pig Dervish).. since then he's been playing in God Is My Co-Pilot, Sumshapes, Painted X-Ray and heading up GIOdynamics for the Glasgow Improvisors Orchestra, producing/recording numerous records (including now partial Notts residents Burd Ellen), collaborating with numerous dance projects and generally being a prolific creative.
Raymond Macdonald is a saxophonist, composer, psychologist and a founding member of the Glasgow Improvisors Orchestra His work has always pushed and studied the boundaries between improvisation and composition. With collaborators including David Byrne, Jim O'Rourke, Damo Sazuki, Lol Coxhill, Tony Buck etc and an extensive discography under his belt, there's a whole heap to draw from... can't wait..
As an improv duo they've released an album entitled Near and Far and been subject of a short film entitled Calling Names, both document the intuitive reciprocity of their musical relationship..
BURD ELLEN (Solo) (Glasgow/Notts)
Burd Ellen is a project featuring Debbie Armour (Alasdair Roberts, Green Ribbons) and Gayle Brogan (Pefkin, Electroscope). The group uses traditional song to explore and evoke dark landscapes and deep stories. Debbie Armour will be performing a rare solo date, presenting stripped back versions of Burd Ellen material and more from her extensive traditional song repertoire.
