Breath as Medicine
https://accm.ie/event/breath-as-medicine/
Fundamental to survival is breath, food, and sleep — all of which is essential to not only being alive, but also being healthy. While there are many different breathing techniques that are utilized by yogic traditions, somatic exercises, and qigong practices, the sole discipline of breathing as medicine is sometimes overlooked. Within Chinese medical modalities, the study and practice for healing with medical qigong focuses primarily on how the breath can be refined specifically for treating diseases.
For example, nasal breathing increases nitric oxide that promotes vascular health, diaphragmatic breathing can decrease cortisol/stress levels and improve sleep, and breath retention can provide greater oxygen distribution for respiratory insufficiency.
Learn simple breathing techniques that can be used for medical issues and how to project the results of such training to others, as demonstrated through practices such as therapeutic touch and Reiki.

Medical Qigong

Among the different modalities of Chinese Medicine, qigong stands out as a mode of self-empowerment that requires simply a “living” individual as the agent of healing (rather than the reliance on herbs, acupuncture, diet, etc.).
By fine tuning the natural process of breathing, qigong offers the practitioner greater awareness of one’s body, heightened sensitivity to the external environment and internal physiology, and cultivated refinement of one’s breath.
As a specialized practice of Qigong, medical qigong emphasises on gathering and conversion of external frequencies, vibrations, and radiation (referred to collectively as wai qi) through body stance and hand/palm/finger training, breath work, and mental focus (such as visualization, projection, and meditation). By manipulating wai qi, a practitioner can direct the qi to balance his or her own body to foster wellness and prevent disease.
In addition, medical qigong can be utilized to heal others and their host of acute and chronic medical conditions. Regular practice promotes body alignment, clears energetic obstructions/blockages, and cultivates a peaceful centered mind. It is a powerful way to enhance your health, promote healing, and experience greater wellbeing – for yourself and others.
