JAZZphoria is an exciting contemporary all – original octet led by saxophonist/composer Jean Fineberg. The band’s original repertoire ranges from swing to bebop, funk, R&B, blues, New Orleans Second Line, salsa and reggae. Comprised of veteran musicians, JAZZphoria features an impressive four-woman horn section and a solid grooving rhythm section.
JAZZphoria’s arrangements recreate the powerful horn sound of a Jazz Orchestra. The ensemble’s name refers to that peak moment when everything is in sync and all the musicians are “in the zone.” Many of the tunes are danceable, and the group’s goal is to get the audience in the zone with them!
Bandleader Jean Fineberg has performed and/or recorded on more than 40 albums, including stints with Melba Liston, David Bowie, Laura Nyro, Cornell Dupree, Mo’fone and The Montclair Women’s Big Band. Her compositions have been performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, The Grammys and the Kennedy Center.
Jean is on the faculty of the California Jazz Conservatory and has been featured on Marian McPartland’s iconic Piano Jazz radio show. She is the recipient of multiple composition grants from the NEA, Meet the Composer, Doris Duke Foundation, Chamber Music America and has served as composer-in-residence at nine art centers around the US.
