Pat Metheny is one of jazz's most celebrated and versatile guitarists, born in Lee's Summit, Missouri in 1954. A prodigy who began teaching at Berklee College of Music as a teenager, Metheny burst onto the scene with his 1976 debut Bright Size Life (featuring Jaco Pastorius) and went on to lead the Pat Metheny Group for over three decades. His music spans contemporary jazz, jazz fusion, Latin jazz, and adventurous avant-garde territory, always anchored by his unmistakable melodic voice on guitar. A collaborator of legends — from Ornette Coleman and Charlie Haden to David Bowie and Joni Mitchell — Metheny has earned 20 Grammy Awards across 10 different categories, a record no other artist has matched. He is an NEA Jazz Master and DownBeat Hall of Famer, and remains one of the most prolific and innovative forces in music today.
