About Jazz Vespers
Jazz Vespers, NYC's unique jazz prayer service, is held every Sunday at 5:00 P.M. Originating in 1965 with The Rev. John Garcia Gensel, he believed jazz to be "probably the best music for worship because it speaks to the existential situation of a human being. It is the personal expression of the person playing it." Saint Peter’s Church, the “First Church of Jazz,” remains a spiritual home to jazz musicians and lovers of jazz. Founded by Ruth and Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Joe Newman and Sheila Jordan, among many others, today the community represents the best of the New York City jazz scene.

About Steve Sandberg
Three-time Emmy-nominated composer/pianist Steve Sandberg plays original music that masterfully blends classical, global music traditions, and jazz with the excitement of virtuosic improvisation.
Steve was lead composer and musical director for Nickelodeon’s landmark children’s programs “Dora the Explorer” and “Go, Diego, Go!” His scoring and songwriting are informed by a lifetime of immersion in the music of many cultures. He began playing the piano at the age of four (and is a current student of the legendary pianist and teacher Seymour Bernstein).
In 2019, Steve was commissioned by Kelly Hall-Tompkins’ Music Kitchen project, which presents classical music at New York City homeless shelters, to write an original song for tenor and string quartet. The song, setting lyrics by former Music Kitchen clients to music, was at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in April, 2022.
About Tony DePaolis
Bassist and composer Tony DePaolis, a Pittsburgh native, is known for his unique voice in both songwriting and arranging. He began his career performing with Horace Silver alum, drummer Roger Humphries, and went on to collaborate with vocalist Sandy Staley and guitarist Jimmy Ponder. In the late 2000s, DePaolis played extensively with rising trumpet star Sean Jones. In 2009, DePaolis released his ambitious debut album *The Contemporary Dynamic*, a two-disc project featuring over thirty-six artists. His compositions and arrangements have been featured on recordings by Charles “Poogie” Bell, Francesco Lo Castro, and others. DePaolis studied Film Studies at Johns Hopkins University and participated in the 2008 Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
About Dennis Bulhões
Dennis Bulhões (pronounced Boolyoins) is a Brazilian drummer, composer, and educator from João Pessoa, Brazil. After earning his Bachelor of Music degree, he won the 2009 public competition for Resident Musician at the Federal University of Paraíba, where he served as the university’s professional percussionist/drummer and taught music extension courses for a decade.
Since relocating to New York in 2014 to pursue a Master of Music in Jazz Studies at Queens College, Dennis has established himself as an active performer, collaborating with acclaimed jazz artists and ensembles. In 2022, he published two books on Brazilian drumming. He has toured internationally with Bebel Gilberto and, more recently, with Hamilton de Holanda, performing at major festivals and concert venues across Europe and North America. Dennis is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Stony Brook University
