This program takes place at our French Quarter Visitor Center - 419 Decatur St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Admission is free and open to the public, seating is limited and offered first come, first served basis.
Born in New Orleans to a family of musicians, Michael Torregano Jr., was thrust into a life of music from an early age. Michael began piano studies at an early age and would start studying the saxophone by the age of 12. It was at the Louis Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp where he would be introduced to jazz for the first time. By the time Michael entered high school he was accepted into the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) where he studied with legendary New Orleans musicians such as, Clyde Kerr Jr., Kent Jordan, and Alvin Batiste.
Michael would go on to study Music Education at the unsinkable Albany State University. After graduating in 2008, he began teaching middle school music, prior to pursuing his career as a musician. Torregano also holds a Master of Music from the University of New Orleans. Through his career as a musician he has had the opportunity with various bands to open for artist such as Alicia Keys, Angie Stone, Stevie Wonder, The Roots, and the Rebirth Brass Band. Torregano is currently based in the New Orleans area where he is an instructor at the Ellis Marsalis Center For Music. He performs regularly with the Nayo Jones Experience, and The Jump Hounds.
