Jazz Loft Legacy Series presents The Sarah-Kei Lauw Band

In Sarah and her band, we get to hear an example of the output of the new generation of young jazz musicians in Singapore. All are recent protegees of the Mosaic Jazz Fellows mentorship program, and are now asserting their own direction and aesthetic as a cohesive performing unit.

Joining Sarah-Kei are Jay Ong (saxophone), Koh Yi Da and Lim Zi Wei (keys), Ivan Ong (bass), and Hong Xian Zheng (drums). Their collaboration stems from their first meeting through the National University of Singapore’s Jazz Band, and continues to gather momentum after graduation.

Doors open at 7pm.

Sets at 7.45 and 9.15pm.

Cover charge $22 for both sets.

THE AGENDA

Having grown up with The Sound Of Music alongside Ella Fitzgerald, it’s no wonder Sarah-Kei gets excited when the two genres meet. Many jazz standards were originally written for musicals or movies, while many musical theatre songs are just waiting to be reimagined into jazz.
