An educational and fun session for beginning to intermediate jazz musicians aspiring to play jazz in a band setting. All jazz instruments, vocalists welcome.
This is currently a private property so no POV required, however we will take usual WA Department of Health recommended covid precautions; hand sanitising and separation. Please do not attend if unwell.
Young aspiring jazz players are welcome with a responsible adult/guardian/parent.
A set list with songs and suggested keys for concert and Bb instruments (Eb instrument keys will be added over time) is provided in a specific Google Drive folder. Here is link:

Also loaded in Google Drive are some EXAMPLES of jazz chord and melody scores for some of the songs we will play. These have been sourced from purchased "Jazz Real Books", personal transcription for Kalamunda Ukulele Collective and other line ups or purchased from websites such as "Musicnotes" for personal use.
Some backing tracks created in Band In a Box will be loaded over time too.
All attendees should source a suitable chord sheet and or melody sheet (if playing melody) for personal use for each of the songs they would like to play at the session. This will avoid any copyright breaches and is a great way to find your way through the maze of jazz material out there!
The simplest way to do this is to purchase a Jazz Real Book (or similar) or two (Concert and Bb as needed) online.
For some songs not in the Real Books (or similar) you can source and pay for at sites such as "Musicnotes", or other sites, in the relevant key. The material purchased will last you a lifetime.
Some attendees may have software they have purchased such as "Ireal Pro' which has thousands of jazz songs and can transcribe into all keys.
Depending on numbers attending combinations of instrumentalists and singers into "bands" will be facilitated and each "band" will play a few songs.
More experienced jazzers are welcomed too so they can mentor the less experienced and audience attendance is encouraged!

Entry to cover costs of catering, PA etc : $12.50, $10 for PHLMA Inc. and Kalamunda Jazz Club members
