Performers include Scott Burns, Dan Nicholson, Kevin Kizer,Chris Lega, Joey Skoch, Dennis Carroll, and George Fludas.BACKGROUNDIn November 1961, jazz legend Benny Carter assembled a stellar group featuring top New Yorksaxophonists Coleman Hawkins, Phil Woods, Charlie Rouse, and himself (as performer andarranger), and a rhythm section that included jazz legends Joe Jones on drums and JimmyGarrison on bass. Together, they created the iconic album Further Definitions, which wascelebrated at the time for Bennys writing, ensemble work, and the solos of Hawkins, Rouse,Woods, and Carter. The instrumentation was somewhat unusual for the dayjust a sax sectionwith rhythm but it worked and produced a great album.Luckily, that music was preserved and will be performed tonight, along with other recentarrangements written for the same instrumentation by Chicago saxophonistsScott Burns, DanNicholson, Kevin Kizer, and Chris Legaalongside a rhythm section featuring Joey Skoch,Dennis Carroll, and George Fludas. ***PARKING***There is rather limited street parking in the area, we recommend arriving by rideshare, bicycle, or rickshaw.
