Jazz at One

Trinity Church continues its century-old tradition of free midday music: On Mondays this spring, jazz is on the menu. From global phenomenon Godwin Louis to rising star Camille Thurman, the lineup features practitioners who are expanding the edges of their form.

Trinity presents Jazz at One in collaboration with JAZZ HOUSE KiDS, to showcase some of the most prolific and influential artists in music history.

Camille Thurman and the Darrell Green Quartet

Camille Thurman, a multi-talented saxophonist, vocalist, and composer, brings her extraordinary artistry to an afternoon of unforgettable music. Renowned for her ability to seamlessly shift between virtuosic saxophone solos and soul-stirring vocals, Thurman captivates audiences with a style that blends jazz, soul, and blues into a dynamic, genre-defying sound. A frequent collaborator with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and a trailblazer in her own right, she has earned acclaim for her technical brilliance, emotional depth, and compelling stage presence.

Godwin Louis

Saxophonist, composer, arranger, educator, philanthropist, humanitarian, and entrepreneur, Louis is a trailblazer in the music world and beyond. Born in Harlem and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Port au Prince, Haiti, Louis taps into every corner of his multicultural background to create his work. The result is a diverse palette of jazz, gospel, classical, and world music bolstered with Afro-Caribbean rhythms. A professor at Berklee College of Music, Louis received a Grammy nomination for his composing and arranging contributions to vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant's album Mélusine. He has also been awarded a Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Grant and received a Jazz Gallery Residency Commission.

Jeremy Pelt Quintet

Pelt has been acclaimed as one of the jazz world’s preeminent young trumpeters by the Jazz Journalists Association, legendary critic Nat Hentoff, and DownBeat Magazine, which voted him Rising Star five years in a row. Since forging an early bond with the Mingus Big Band, Pelt has continued to create meaningful collaborations, frequently performing alongside such notable ensembles as the Roy Hargrove Big Band, The Village Vanguard Orchestra, and the Duke Ellington Big Band, and as a member of the Lewis Nash Septet and The Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band featuring Louis Hayes. As a bandleader in his own right, Pelt has toured globally and recorded 10 albums, the latest of which is Soundtrack.

Andromeda Turre

Andromeda Turre is a vocalist and composer whose work blends the rich traditions of jazz with bold contemporary narratives. The daughter of trombonist Steve Turre and cellist Akua Dixon, Turre was raised in New York City and immersed in the artistry of such legends as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, and Wynton Marsalis. Educated at the Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, Turre draws on classical, contemporary, and theatrical influences to create a singular voice in jazz. Her latest project, From the Earth, is a groundbreaking jazz suite addressing environmental justice and the impact of climate change on marginalized communities. With a career spanning performances in 17 countries and compositions for film, television, video games, and theater, Turre continues to push boundaries, using music as a powerful tool for empathy and transformation.

Julian Lage

One of the most innovative and virtuosic guitarists of his generation, Julian Lage brings his spellbinding artistry to the stage for an unforgettable evening of music. Blending jazz, blues, folk, and rock with breathtaking technical skill and emotional depth, Lage’s performances are a master class in storytelling through sound. A Grammy-nominated artist and collaborator with icons like Gary Burton, John Zorn, and Chris Thile, Lage has brought genre-defying style and improvisational brilliance to audiences worldwide.
