His intimately personal images, which have never before been exhibited in a museum, presents such beloved bands as the Rolling Stones, U2, Siouxie the Banshees, and the Ramones. Also featured are dynamic images of stars including Tina Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Madonna, Buddy Guy, and BB King, among others.
Jay grew up in rural Minnesota and studied Art at the University of Minnesota, where he began his photography career as a staff photographer for The Minnesota Daily. This gave him the chance to photograph musicians at local venues, including First Avenue, made famous by Prince’s *Purple Rain*. In 1988, Jay moved to Florida for an internship with the Lakeland Ledger, where he met his wife, Joy. After the internship, they relocated to Tampa, where Jay worked for over 20 years at the Tampa Tribune before a company-wide layoff in 2011. Since then, Jay has worked as a freelance photographer for clients like Tampa General Hospital and the University of South Florida. He also mentors students in the Art department at Blake High School in Tampa, a role he's held since 2000.
