After a sold out "Jazzland Sessions" show at Brudenell Social Club in June 2022 for Leeds Jazz Festival, saxophonist/composer/bandleader Jasmine Myra returns to the venue with her band on 29th March 2023 as part of her spring 2023 UK tour. The Leeds born but London based musician released her debut album "Horizons" in summer 2022 on Matthew Halsall's highly respected Gondwana Records and it became an immediate critical success with much radio play and great reviews both at home and abroad.
Jasmine Myra was born and raised in Leeds where she studied music at Leeds Conservatoire and became part of the bustling, creative, cross-genre music scene in the city. In 2022, she signed to Gondwana Records and began working with label A&R and producer Matthew Halsall. His keen ear for talent helped bring the music of GoGo Penguin, Mammal Hands and Hania Rani to the wider world. In the summer, Jasmine's debut album "Horizons" came out. Her original instrumental music has been described as having a euphoric and uplifting sound, influenced by artists as diverse as Bonobo, Olafur Arnalds and Kenny Wheeler, artists whose music shares an emotive quality that you can also hear in Jasmine’s own compositions. Here's what people have said about "Horizons" :
“It's such a great record, absolutely beautiful” – Tom Ravenscroft, BBC 6 Music
“It sounds amazing, it’s a beautiful recording” – Gilles Peterson, BBC 6 Music

“A great new artist!” – Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2

“This is beautiful and profound music.” – London Jazz News

“This album is a triumph of youth and hope and love” – Ban Ban Ton Ton
"Essentially though, this is healing music composed in the pandemic’s wake. Its arc moves from ‘Horizons’ to ‘New Beginnings’, finding fecund organic life along the way" - Jazzwise Magazine
Once again, Jasmine Myra returns to the Brudenell stage with her 8 piece band (2 saxes, flute, piano, guitar, double bass, harp, drums), featuring some of the best young musical talent in the north of England. The Jazzland Sessions shows are table seated and only have a capacity of 100. The last show sold out so get your tickets as soon as possible..
Support comes from trumpeter Olivia Cuttill and her quartet. She is a young trumpet player from East London who is currently studying at Leeds Conservatoire and at just 20 years old, already a rising star of the British jazz scene. She released music in 2022 with her fusion jazz band Mangorata alongside her debut solo album 'Three's A Crowd", a series of duets with some of the best musicians she currently plays with In Leeds. Her influences range from Chet Baker, Miles Davis and Chick Correa to Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell. These inspirations have sculpted her playing, composing and overall love for music. Since the post-pandemic re-opening, she's been setting the jazz scenes in Leeds and London alight. Tonight, she is joined onstage by drummer Miles Pillinger (Mangorata), double bassist Fergus Quill (The Fergus Quill Trio) and Manchester pianist Tom Harris. Expect a set of original music plus some interesting reimaginiations of some of her favourite classic jazz compositions.
