About this Event
About this workshop
MONO JAPAN will be the setting for an authentic Japanese tea ceremony. A contemplative ritual in silence, where Haruka Matsuo performs the actions that precede drinking the green Gyokuro tea and eating a traditional Japanese delicacy.
The tea utensils were baked by herself according to age-old traditions. Some of them are made from the red brown earth of the Ijssel river in the Netherlands. An old Japanese master of ceramics taught her to make teapots with wooden moulds.
Haruka: "during the ceremony, time seems to disappear. You do the process for yourself but share it with the spectators. After all, you make the tea for the other person. For me, the attention is the beauty".
Haruka Matsuo is an artist and a prominent figure in the world of Japanese tea ceremony. Hailing from the renowned Oubaku Baisa ryu lineage, she is the successor of Seigetsu Iriyama, a highly regarded master of the traditional craft of Kigata Banko. With her deep-rooted expertise and passion for the tea ceremony, Haruka has mastered the intricate art of preparing and serving tea, embodying the elegance and harmony of Japanese culture. Her skilful and precise movements, combined with her artistic sensibilities, create a captivating and authentic tea ceremony experience.
