This simple bag has been used for centuries to carry rice from the market to the table. In two sessions, you can learn to make one. The first session will concentrate on cutting the fabric scraps and piecing together two sides of the bag in a simple patchwork pattern. Then we will trace some traditional Sashiko patterns and embellish them with Sashiko stitching. In the second session we will sew together the outside of the bag, the lining and the tabs to thread with rope handles. It can be done by hand or by machine. This is the class is for both a student who has basic sewing techniques to someone who is experienced in Sashiko. Pattie will teach you how to do the Sashiko stitching pattern.
