Japanese Painting Workshop
We’re Floating Art, a small Northern arts business that has been teaching people to paint for over 7 years. Our workshops are led by practising artist Ula Fung, with support from her partner Ryan.
We'll be using traditional materials including bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美, gold leaf and rice paper,
Winter Theme
Japanese culture places great importance on the seasons, so our workshops follow seasonal themes. This session focuses on winter, exploring the beauty and atmosphere of the Japanese winter landscape. You’ll learn techniques for painting seasonal subjects and discover how Japanese artists capture the quiet beauty of winter.
We’ll provide a wide range of references from classic and contemporary Japanese artists.
Suitable for Beginners
No previous experience is needed. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some painting experience, Ula will guide you throughout the session and answer any questions.
At the end, you’ll take home your painting and a new skill you can continue practising whenever you need a creative escape.
Make a Day of It
The workshop takes place at Cambridge Street Collective Food Hall in Sheffield, with a fantastic choice of food and drink available to purchase before, during or after the session. Why not make a day of it? A perfect Sunday!

What to Bring
- Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a little paint on
- A bag to carry your artwork home
Age: 16+ only but please contact us if you would like to bring somebody under 16 in the company of an adult.
Towards the end of the workshop, there will be an opportunity to have your photo taken. Photos may be used for social media and promotional purposes. Please let us know if you’d prefer not to be photographed.
