A once in a lifetime opportunity is coming to North Texas!
The North Texas Blacksmithing will be hosting Master Bladesmith Yoshida Masaya from Japan along with his apprentice Robert Guest on July 20th & 21, starting at 9am each day. The fee will be $35($25 NTBA member) per person each day. Both demos will be held at Gaby’s Blacksmith Shop at the Frisco Heritage Museum.
Day one, Master Masaya will be demonstrating the forging process of building the billet using raw materials for the creation of a blade in a traditional style charcoal forge and box bellows.
Day two Master Masaya will cover the technique of creating the clay Hamon and water quenching using a glass tank so the recurvature of the blade during quenching can be seen.
He will also be demonstrating the age old process of polishing the blade using Japanese water stones.
In addition to the two day demo, Master Masaya will be bringing items of his work for sale. (We will discuss this at the event.)
