About this Event

Japanese Indigo Dried Leaf Extraction

Come join us at Dyer's Apothecary Farm (part of Kwantlen Richmond Incubator Farm) for a hands-on workshop on extracting dye from Japanese indigo dried leaves!

We're excited to host our first on-site workshop! We will be teaching you basics of growing, harvesting, and extracting indigo dye from Japanese Indigo (persicaria tinctoria). We will provide you a pre-scoured cotton square scarf or bandana (similar sizing, different fabric weights) to design your own resist pattern and dye with our extracted blue!

We are happy to prepare your own extraction kit (dried leaves, gloves, pH paper, fructose, and calx) for an additional $30.

We are a small farm growing on unceded and ancestral Musqueam lands. We grow natural dyes as part of our goal of helping to support the growth of our own Canadian Textile system.
