About this Event
At My Chunky Table, every experience is about more than just the recipe. It’s about gathering, learning together, and creating something meaningful to share. Each experience is created to be warm, welcoming, and encouraging, whether you arrive with friends or come on your own. You’ll learn practical skills through hands-on guidance, enjoy the process along the way, and sit down to enjoy a meal we’ve created together.
In this experience, we’ll prepare Japanese chicken katsu, a classic comfort dish made with panko-breaded chicken that is lightly fried until golden. I’ll guide you step by step through the process, including breading, frying, and serving the chicken, along with preparing Japanese-style rice and the traditional accompaniments that make this meal feel complete.
This experience is designed around learning a full meal you can confidently recreate at home, whether for a weeknight family dinner or when hosting friends. Along the way, I’ll share practical tips and simple techniques that make this dish approachable and repeatable, so it becomes something you return to again and again around your own table.
Dinner is rounded out with a fresh shredded cabbage salad dressed with a light homemade Asian-style dressing. We’ll finish the evening with a small sweet ending, an almond float, which is a simple family favorite dessert that brings a gentle close to the meal.
Guests are welcome to practice using chopsticks during dinner, with tips and encouragement along the way. At the end of the evening, we’ll sit down and enjoy the meal together in a warm, welcoming setting.
