Japanese Calligraphy Workshop – Children’s Day & Koinobori Ink Painting

In Japan, early May is marked by a traditional celebration.
About this Event

This special occasion is dedicated to celebrating the healthy growth, happiness, and future success of children.
One of the most iconic symbols of this festival is the koinobori—carp-shaped streamers that are flown outside homes. The carp holds deep meaning in Japanese culture. Inspired by an ancient legend, the carp is known for its strength and determination, swimming upstream against powerful currents.

Because of this, it has become a symbol of perseverance, courage, and the ability to overcome life’s challenges.
For Japanese families, displaying koinobori is more than decoration—it is a heartfelt wish for children to grow strong, resilient, and successful in their own lives.

In this workshop, we will explore not only the artistic techniques of traditional Japanese ink painting (sumi-e), but also the cultural spirit behind it. By painting your own koinobori, you are not just creating art—you are expressing a universal hope for growth, strength, and good fortune.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture through both story and practice, in a calm and mindful atmosphere.
Join us and bring this meaningful tradition to life through ink and brush.
